SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) –
A plethora of local programs are taking aim at social ills including the Savannah Early Childhood Foundation.
They laid out their plans at a breakfast Wednesday morning at the Savannah Golf Club. They invited members of the Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Authority, Visit Savannah and the United Way.
“Our goal is to have all school children ready at school age. The goal is that by doing that, we will change the culture of neighborhoods, one neighborhood at a time, and change the culture of the entire community. Our long-term indicator of success is that we will have a significant impact on crime, poverty, low educational outcomes, teen pregnancy, juvenile delinquency and truancy.
The foundation began putting its plan into action on Wednesday, reaching out to the community through childcare facilities, faith-based organizations and neighborhood groups.
